I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

by deleting it from vault in theory u have removed it ,however, u shaould now disable system restore...rt clik my puter/properties/system restore then turn off system restore....reboot......then turn it back on after boot ....u do this because even though u have removed it w/ avg or any other tool it still resides in ur restore .....while u r in there u can turn down the amount of disk space to use to say 3-5% there is no reason to use the full amt and it just takes up resources slowing ur puter down u can reduce the amt in recycle bin also

I get XPAntivirus pop ups which let me run a free scan which shows mountains of crap on my system. If Avast can detect the trojan, it might be able to remove it in safe mode.

To boot into safe mode, turn off your PC, start it again and press F8 during the bootup screen. Then choose to boot into safe mode.

Once in safe mode, do a full system scan using Avast and hopefully it will be able to remove it.

If not, dump Avast and change antivirus' to Avira AntiVir PE Classic and give that a try. It is completely free and has VERY good detection rates. It also uses much less system resources than Avast.

You might need to download some anti-trojan/anti-spyware scanners too.

OKAYS.... Before doing this, back up what is on your PC incase the trojan spreads and causes damage.

Plug it into your PC (turn your firewall on) and select all and right click, then un-tick the box of 'READ ONLY' and APPLY hopefully after this you can delete the files. then reformat the USB.

If your antivirus software isn't removing it then the only other option is to blitz your pc - format the hard drive and re-install windows but make sure your virus definitions are up to date.

Are you saying that AVG was not able to find the Trojan or that it found it and cannot get rid of it. You will have to be clearer. How did you discover you had the Trojan. In a lot of cases, they will usually recommend that the virus or Trojan be quarantined. However, within their program, you can open the quarantined folder and delete the files from there if you wish.. If you have to go back and do the scan again and look carefully at your options at the end of the scan. My other advice would be to install a program such as Webroot's spysweeper and to run that. It is specifically known to get rid of Trojans when all else fails.

PowMax4.23 to a floppy disc. Insert the floppy

disc into the pc and re-boot it. Follow the instructions and it will erase your entire hard drive.

Then you should be able to install Windows and then use your Recovery disc to bring back what you had before you lost it.

WARNING: This will erase everything on your hard drive!! But, it will reformat it and you will be able to install Windows and then use your Recovery disc.

I restarted my computer and then pressed F8 . . . once in safe mode, run a MCAFEE virus scan . . . it should locate the downloader trojan and get rid of it . . . then re-start your PC once again and it will be gone . . . try mcafee.com and their message boards for further info . . .

Are you sure that ''trojan horse'' is the NAME of the virus and not just the TYPE of virus? You need to find out and then edit your question to have the NAME of the virus so we can help you figure out how to get rid of it.

Also, the virus has disabled your McAfee software from not being able to delete it or quarintine it. That's one of the things that viruses do to your computer when it gets one.

Long and short answer is that there is no evidence that this can be downloaded by stealth or backdoor, but rather does have a pop up with an accept button, asking if you want a 3 day trial of free porn site access. On clicking the accept button the software is downloaded and activated with a ticking clock. You are charged a fee if you do not cancel within the trail period, but the instructions on how to cancel are hidden well away, and in any case do not appear to work!

As you have bought on eBay I assume that the previous owner did the above. From the evidence to date there is little point in trying to get this company to accept this though, as their business practises are not exactly an model of utmost good faith.

If you are running Windows ME or Windows XP, it is advised that you should turn off your system restore, run the removal programs, and when the system is clean. Then go back and turn system restore back on.

if it comes up every time, its doing lots of bad things to your PC. your antivirus detected it doing/running malicious code.

your system files could have been compromised as well.

i suggest backing up all your important files and reinstalling after you exhausted all your options.

if you have antivirus software which i presume you do, run it. if it can't detect or completely remove the virus run an online scanner. also run a spyware/malware cleaner. the trojan is most probably duplicating so you can't completely remove it.

one very important thing: DON'T USE SYSTEM RESTORE

If this is Vista, boot up to safe mode try installing latest fixes. If that does not help, type ''msconfig'', go to startup tab and uncheck the applications you are not familiar with. Restart test and see if went away. You can also try standalone app called Stinger.exe from Macafee. Link is attached.
DON'T CLICK TO DOWNLOAD! You have to use a decent virus scanner to scan and delete the virus. Also, run Ad-Aware to get rid of spyware. It also seems as though someone has hijacked your HOSTS file, so websites redirect to other sites. Run those virus scanners and if they don't work, download Hiren's Boot CD and boot off of that and that will get rid of the virus/adware.
That is spyware and you should run a anti spyware program like spybot search and destroy or xsoftspy to remove it.

I agree with the other posts on here in that you have likely got adware or malware on your system. I would recommend you do a Google Search for Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy, which are the two industry leaders for anti-spyware and anti adware. I won't provide links because I don't want anyone to click on a link on this that may end up also hacked and misdirecting you to a trojan site. You should run BOTH tools to clean your system and keep it maintained. This is in ADDITION to running anti-virus tools. Run both because one tool will find things the other one won't, and vice versa.

Zonealarm firewall

My husband and I have had a run in with that nasty little virus. Our Spybot and Ad Aware would not catch it. We finally found AVG free edition, it is a GREAT anti virus. If you have run a virus scan and gotten rid of the virus, then you need to do a spyware scan also to get rid of the other programs that the virus put on. If you need some software to do this with, I recommend Ad-aware SE Personal Edition.

It should offer you an option to either delete it or quarantine it. Simply delete it then disable System Restore, reboot and re-enable System Restore when you log back on.
